eGovernment across borders

This community is intended for policy-makers and practitioners interested in cross-border and European level eGovernment services. To realize important European objectives such as mobility of persons, goods and services, cross-border and European access to public services is an important step. eGovernment offers the unique possibility to provide a European dimension to public service provision, while still leaving the autonomy of Member States in this area intact. In addition, European level good practice exchange will accellerate the development and uptake of new, better eGovernment solutions in Europe's Member States, who can learn optimally from each others's experiences. Thus, Europe can strenghten eGovernment, and eGovernment can strengthen Europe. This community aims to become a place for gathering information as well as the exchange of ideas, documentation and events on the 'Europeanisation' of eGovernment. Creating a cross-border or European dimension of eGovernment services will make more sense in some policy areas than in others, and can be done through different pathways and by different actors. Bottom-up cooperation towards joint service provision by Member States in Euregions is one way; creating a European level front-office for (mobile) citizens in a certain administrative area, with the different national public administrations as back-offices, is another. By describing actual cases that demonstrate a particular form of Europeanization, the community will increase insight and inspire new ideas. The community will be important as a portal for exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience, and ideally will serve a brokerage role between public administrations in different Member States who are looking for ways to cooperate across borders in order to offer public services at an international or European scale.
