This workshop is an initiative of the Directorate-General Information Society and Media, European Commission and will be held on March 2, 2010. In particular, it aims to encourage the sharing of good practice in the area of eHealth and address the legal and logistics dimensions in telemedicine practice. Subjects to be covered include legal liability of practitioners, patient data privacy and protection, as well as financial and logistics subjects, such as reimbursement of services, etc. Furthermore, two telemedicine case studies will be presented to the participants.

Ultimately, the workshop will facilitate the dissemination of good practice initiatives, knowledge and experiences on the field, thus accelerating the uptake of telemedicine solutions and improving both policy-making and research.

A list of topics to be discussed includes (but not limited to):

  • General presentation of the draft Staff Working Paper on the applicability of existing EU legal framework to telemedicine services
  • License/registration/authorization of telemedicine professionals
  • Reimbursement for telemedicine services
  • Liability
  • Data protection
  • Use Case - Teleradiology
  • Teleconsultation
