The 2011 World of Health Information Technology (WoHIT) Conference and Exhibition has made a call for papers with a closing deadline for submission of 10 September 2010.

The 2011 WoHIT Conference and Exhibition will be held in Budapest, Hungary on 10-13 May 2011, in conjunction with the annual eHealth High Level Ministerial Conference, 'eHealth2011', which is co-organised by the European Commission and the Hungarian Presidency of the EU.

WoHIT has announced its call for papers on European Information Technology (IT) development on 19 July 2010. The focus will be on proposals that address the educational needs of professionals in various sectors of healthcare, enterprise solutions and practical approaches to healthcare IT issues. Three different themes in the area of eHealth and health IT have been named:

  • 'eHealth Works: Here is the Evidence' involves demonstrable examples of the real benefits that eHealth can yield out of investments from a diverse set of healthcare organisations and users throughout Europe. Presenters are also asked to describe situations in which the expected returns on the investment made were not achieved and how these scenarios helped to inform and change future eHealth implementations.'eHealth Works: Here is the Evidence' includes presentations ranging from the macro to the micro level - from national or regional health networks to eHealth operations in hospital wards or in the patient's home. Presentations will also include a diverse spectrum of healthcare settings, ranging from the hospital to the general practitioner's office, to homecare services and personal health applications. But in all cases, the presenters are expected to show evidence of how eHealth has been transforming healthcare and has been yielding measurable benefits for key stakeholders.
  • 'eHealth Market: Present and Prospects' invites presentations on the whole range of eHealth applications that have already resulted into the deployment of business initiatives or are expected to yield new business models in the next future. New or cutting-edge developments in eHealth that are moving from the conceptual/theoretical to experimental will be included. Presenters in this theme will describe clearly new technological advancements or practices in eHealth, any results to date, business models making their names known and potential implications for wider use across the European eHealth Community. eHealth Market: Present and Prospects will include presentations from the macro to the micro level and from across different care settings, but the emerging developments that are presented should be applicable to an audience with diverse needs and different perspectives.
  • 'The eHealth Users' Platform' gives a voice to the needs, expectations and ideas of European health professionals on eHealth. To do so, doctors, nurses and administrators of health organisations from all over Europe are invited to present on their current and future expectations for practical eHealth applications. Where applicable, health authorities and administrations, as well as other purchasers will be invited to issue or publicise tenders for eHealth procurement or simply describe their expected long-term needs and roadmaps for health information technologies.Patient groups will also present on prospective needs for eHealth connectivity to the patient as well as to highlight existing needs that still have to be presented with an eHealth solution.
