The book 'e-Skills Manifesto - A Call to Arms' produced by the European Schoolnet and DIGITALEUROPE as part of the European e-Skills Week aims to raise awareness of the challenges Europe faces and to provide actionable advice on what needs to be done.

Funded by the European Commission and the European e-Skills Association the 'e-Skills Manifesto' was launched at the European Business Summit on 30 June 2010 in Brussels.

Authored by Mr. Ade McCormack - an international business newspaper columnist, adviser and ICT market commentator -, the book provides its readers with information about the strengths, opportunities and challenges ahead for Europe. The manifesto has been universally endorsed by the European digital technology industry sector as a reference text for policy and decision-making.

"This evidence based work guides decision makers in addressing an issue which lies at the heart of Europe's capacity to build a culture of innovation and a fully inclusive digital society,' states Ms. Bridget Cosgrave, the Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE.

According to the author the "...first job is to recognise that e-skills must sit alongside the 3Rs, namely reading, (w)riting and (a)rithmatic as a basic competence that every European citizen must possess. Thus e-skills is not just a challenge for those that 'consume' technologists, but one that applies to every sector and every element of society."
