'E-Cadastre', the electronic Land Registry system of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, officially started operating on 29 May 2010. It aims to provide citizens with faster and more efficient services on land registration matters.
E-Cadastre is currently available for the territory of the city of Skopje, but it services are expected to be expanded to more cities across the country in the near future.
The Minister for Information Society, Mr. Ivo Ivanovski believes that with the implementation of eCadastre greater transparency and efficiency will be achieved, the accountability of the state institutions will be enhanced, while citizens will save time with the use of the electronic services.
Likewise, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Vladimir Pesevski pointed out that the introduction of eCadastre will significantly increase the reliability of data and will provide more efficient services to citizens.
At the official presentation of the system, Mr. Pesevski further declared; "The reliability of the data will be significantly improved as the users will have real-time access to data. (...) This project plays a key role in creating an efficient business environment, particularly in the area of real estate and in the construction sector in general." He also added that after Slovenia, his country became the second one in the region to put the system into operation.
The cost of the project reached approximately €320 000, with funds provided by the budget of the Agency for Real Estate Cadastre. The system was developed by a private company in almost two years using sophisticated web technology.
