Visitors of 'Kolesterool.net', an Estonian website aiming to inform the public on the effects of high cholesterol levels on health and blood pressure, can submit online questions on the theme of heart disease and get the answers of a cardiologist and/or a general practitioner via the site's forum.

Furthermore, the portal contains a wealth of practical suggestions on how to prevent and identify the risks of heart disease. The information is available in Estonian and Russian.

Besides the usual one-way information, the portal features interactive electronic lectures on health issues. They provide a 30-minute overview of the causes of heart disease as well as prevention and diagnosis. The eLectures that are currently available focus on the following themes:

  • Cholesterol and Health
  • High blood pressure
  • Cardiovascular Anatomy

A 6-minute Estonian language video dedicated to 'Atherosclerosis' moreover illustrates how cholesterol clogs the arteries and what impact this has on people's health.

According to Estonian statistics, every second person dies as a result of heart disease. Hence it is extremely important to prevent the causes of the disease, to spot the first noticeable symptoms and to contribute to early diagnosis. An informed patient is certainly a better partner for the doctor and for achieving the best results.

Bilingual (Estonian/Russian) in-depth information on several other diseases can also be found on similar websites, such as www.rinnavahk.ee (Breast cancer), www.korvetised.ee (Heartburn), www.astma.ee (Asthma) and www.endometrioos.net (Endometriosis), some of which also have interactive features.
