The government of Malta has recently created the 'Malta Open Source End User Group' (Moseug). The group is meant to become a major driving force behind Open Source initiatives in the country.

According to Mr. Michel Bugeja, an IT architect of the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA), "All stakeholders see the formation of the user group as a commitment from the government to promote Open Source software on equal play to proprietary software." The aim will be to encourage and increase the use of Open Source software in the government.

The opening meeting of the Moseug took place on 30 April 2010.  It discussed the group's role and focused on the use of Open Source tools in the Public Administration. The meeting saw the participation of MITA civil administrators, IT service providers, academics and representatives from the Malta Open Source community, among other attendees.

A new Moseug meeting is expected to take place during the summer of 2010.
