A Charter of Ethics on 3D territory images has been recently signed on the occasion of the "Imagina 2010" conference,  setting a common reference for the 3D territory representation of France, Switzerland, Quebec and Monaco. The adherence of more signatories to the Charter is desired and should prove necessary.

3D images have become an indispensable tool for territory representation, allowing the concerned institutions to plan and monitor infrastructure development and management procedures based on their valuable information.

Nevertheless, territory representation needs to be both reliable and realistic and to this extent a Charter of Ethics has been recently created. This charter defines the guidelines on 3D territory representation and it is build upon 3 main principles:

  • Principle of credibility: images should not be likely to influence the decision maker and their elaboration should be based on reliable and updated data;
  • Principle of transparency: the data on which images have been created have to be documented and their elaboration justified;
  • Principle of network development and 3D dissemination: the signatories commit themselves to disseminate the charter principles and to develop its network and usage.

The signature of this charter concerns the public and private sector, as well as various research units.
