The French Nuclear Safety Authority (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire - ASN) has recently launched a portal to measure the radioactivity level in the environment.

The new portal, www.mesure-radioactivite.fr, launched under the auspices of the ASN, has been developed in collaboration with the Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire - IRSN) and in partnership with several public authorities and associations operating in the health and environmental fields.

The site allows citizens to consult data provided by 7 centres regularly monitoring the level of radioactivity in the environment, and it presents the most significant initiatives and measures taken by the concerned authorities.

The measurements available on the network are obligatorily performed by IRSN or other approved laboratories.

The Commissariat for Atomic Energy (Commissariat à l' Énergie Atomique - CEA), which has been involved in the creation of this network since 2009, has already provided more than 32 000 results of measures taken. The seven centers involved that perform a regular monitoring  of the radioactivity in the environment are: Bruyeres-le-Chatel, Cadarache, Fontenay-aux-Roses, Grenoble, Marcoule, Saclay, and Valduc.
