The seven winners of the 2008 European e-Inclusion Awards have been announced on 1 December 2008, during the Vienna Ministerial Conference on e-Inclusion.

The seven winners are, per award category:

  • Ageing Well Award: London Borough of Newham (United Kingdom);
  • Marginalised Young People Award: A-Clinic Foundation (Finland);
  • Geographic Inclusion Award: Kyyjärven kunta (Finland);
  • Cultural Diversity Award: Milton Keynes Council (United Kingdom);
  • Digital Literacy Award: Association ‘Langas I ateiti’ (Lithuania);
  • eAccessibility Award: Synscenter Refsnæs (Denmark);
  • Inclusive Public Services Award: Sotiria Hospital (Greece).

Across 34 European and adjoining countries, 469 public, private and third sector organisations entered their project for the 2008 European e-Inclusion Awards. Of these, 35 were short-listed as finalists in the above award categories.

The European eInclusion Awards competition has been organised within the framework of European Commission's "e-Inclusion: Be part of It" initiative. Their aim is to celebrate the best and most imaginative uses of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) to reduce digital and social exclusion.

The five finalists in each category have been invited to exhibit at the Ministerial Conference on e-Inclusion. The seven Awards winners have been announced during the conference’s Awards ceremony on 1 December 2008.

The Ministerial Conference on e-Inclusion has been jointly organised from 30 November to 2 December 2008 by the European Commission and the Austrian Government, in cooperation with the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
