The Slovak Republic's Government Office launched on 22/04/03 a national public information portal Obcan.sk (Citizen.sk), dedicated to improving communication between the country's public administration and its citizens.

One of the main objectives of the portal will be to provide up-to-date information on public services offered by the Slovak state administration and relevant independent organisations. In its present format, the site offers users the possibility to locate local public authorities that may be of use to them, as well as presenting services around real-life situations that can be encountered by citizens.

The portal was created with the support of private suppliers, including Microsoft, Siemens Business Services and HP.
