Addressing the Future - First European Address ConferenceÂ
Over the last decade it has become widely acknowledged that well constructed addresses and good quality address data constitute an important part of a society's infrastructure. On the global scene the World Bank, the United Nations and the Universal Postal Union have stated that addresses are an essential tool for economic and social development, and that the existence of complete, correct and unique address data should be seen as being of fundamental importance to all countries.
In Europe, the INSPIRE Directive has recognized 'addresses' as one of the top priority data themes, vital as a common reference for the development of a European Spatial Data Infrastructure. Also in Europe, the work done by EURADIN (EURopean ADdress Infrastructure), a Best Practice Network funded by the European Union under the eContentplus programme, has again proved the substantial benefits for society of having good addresses. Participants on this event will hear on the findings and conclusions of the EURADIN project
At the Conference, the European Address Forum (EAF) will be also be launched, in order to support the development of well-structured addresses, best practice addressing processes and the availability and efficient use of harmonized and good quality address data throughout Europe.
The EAF encourages commitment and collaboration of all stakeholders involved in addressing and in the collection, maintenance, use and dissemination of address data. It is therefore open to all citizens and organisations of any European country that have a responsibility for or professional interest in addressing and address data, whether they are in the public, private, voluntary, research or academic sectors or society at large. Â
Attendance to this open event is free of charge, but, due to limited space registration is compulsory. A preliminary agenda of the event is published here.
