GMES operational capacity workshop 2010 - Observing Our Planet for a Safer World

The Global Monitoring  for Environment and Security  (GMES) is a European programme for the implementation a European capacity for Earth observation that provides data useful in a range of issues including climate change and citizens’ security and border surveillance trough the observation of land, sea and atmosphere.

The Sofia 2010 GMES operational capacity workshop objectives will be the following:

  • Raising awareness on GMES and the current role of EU-12;
  • Giving opportunities for an increased involvement of the EU -12 in research activities and future operational exploitation of GMES.

The main topics discussed will be the evolution of GMES - research and operational aspects,  the GMES program governance for infrastructure observation and services provision and the progresses in GMES services and involvement of EU-12; detailed information on the topics is available here; a preliminary program can be consulted here.

The deadline for the submission of presentations is the 10th of March 2010; the workshop is addressed to the representatives from all EU Member States and candidate countries.
