Euromontana's 7th European Mountain Convention "European Mountain Regions- A spirit of Innovation"
Euromontana is a multi-sectoral association with 66 members from Europe (EU and beyond): authorities, development agencies, agricultural and environmental organisations, research institutes, schools, etc. Its aim is for mountainous regions to overcome their weaknesses and ensure their development taking into account all three dimensions of sustainability (economy, social and environment. Euromontana's mission is to promote living mountains, integrated and sustainable development and quality of life in mountain areas.
In order to achieve this, Euromontana facilitates the exchange of information and experience among these areas by organising seminars and major conferences, by conducting and collaborating in studies, by developing, managing and participating in European projects and by working with the European institutions on mountain issues.
This years' theme for the European Mountain Convention is "Innovation as a key driver for the development of mountain areas". Innovation, in conjunction with research, is part of the "EU 2020 strategy" the European Union and its Member States recently chose to respond to the economic crisis and to energize European businesses:
Every two years, since 1998, the European Mountain Conventions organised by Euromontana gather European, national, regional and local key stakeholders, scientists and entrepreneurs. During 2.5 days, the participants discuss important issues for the development of mountain areas and communities.
The work of this convention will focus on two different themes: during the first workshops the innovation process will be treated: how to innovate in mountain areas and what are the main factors required. In a second session of workshops the sectors in which mountain areas can use best their specificities in order to innovate will be considered. Best practices from mountain areas will be presented and the main focus will be put on the transferability of these identified examples.
A provisional agenda for the event can be found here.
The event is open to all following the payment of a fee. Attendance is expected to reach 300 persons. More details on registration and fees will be announced shortly.
