Description

Increasing social inclusion and decreasing poverty through ICT

The event is organised as part of the activities taking place under the European Year for combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

It will be held in the framework of the three days meeting of the EUROCITIES Knowledge Society Forum Summer Event - 'How to plan and build the inclusive, sustainable and desirable city'; the latter will focus on ICT as a basic necessity when planning and building inclusive and sustainable cities.

The event plans to bring the discussion around digital inclusion to the local level. Cities are closest to Europeans and deliver a majority of public services. The event will thus attempt to identify groups at risk in cities and present new findings and advice on how cities can address groups at risk of digital exclusion. It will also aim at matching recent academic findings with currently ongoing municipal initiatives, by presenting concrete cases and up-to-date research results.

Speakers will include practitioners and experts from cities and their partners, research organisations and the European institutions.

Attendance to this open event is free of charge but prior registration via the website of the EUROCITIES Knowledge Society Forum Summer Event is required.
