National Congress AICA 2010 - The reconstruction of L'Aquila as a laboratory for the national ICT scientific and industrial community
Approximately one year after the earthquake in the city of L'Aquila, Abruzzo region, central Italy, the path to reconstruction has started. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can facilitate an innovative reconstruction process, serving as a laboratory for experimenting new techniques, both in specific and multi disciplinary areas.
For the first time in Italy, there is a concrete possibility to test, in the particular national context of a historically stratified structure, the introduction of the elements of the future city landscape. In such a scenario ICT can play a dominant and pervasive part in all the disciplinary areas of reconstruction, e.g.: restoration of monuments and application of (re)constructive techniques; planning and management of resource distribution networks (water, gas, electricity); planning of intelligent buildings, resource-aware and cooperative neighborhoods/areas; management of mobility and geolocation of social activities in a multi-centric territory.
A widespread public administration needs new iGovernment solutions in its relations with the citizen, as well as for the management of health and of environmental and transport services. Those enabling technologies which can promote the social, cultural and economical rebirth of the area are singled out in the National Plan on ICT Research. They include: embedded pervasive systems, technology for networks, infrastructure and networks for services, service platforms, future media, future user/machine interaction, perceptual and cognitive robotics, security.
