'New technology for social integration - Challenges and prospects in Italy'
The BRIDGE-IT Thematic Network a European project gathering experts in the fields of education, employment and civil society working on ICT for social integration and cultural diversity, with an emphasis on immigrants and ethnic minorities. This event is the Italian national seminar organised within the Network's framework.
Non-profit organisation 'Fondazione Mondo Digitale' will participate by presenting their experience of a structure for the refugees' reception - the Enea Centre. It is a project and multi-services centre wanted by the Rome Commune and Minister of Interior, intended to promote a new territorial system for the reception of refugees by promoting the networking of opportunities and the use of the resources of the territory. In that sense, the centre represents a deep cultural change: from a static service model to a dynamic approach of reception based on the study of personalised projects for every single person, depending on their stories, needs, expectations. This is done in order to offer specific services and instruments to help refugees in the migratory path, enabling them to give value to their identity and make choices.
In the Enea Centre project, a special emphasis is put on the needs related to finding a job, a house, learn Italian, etc. One of the core services of the Centre is a 'net-café' that provides digital alphabetisation courses to refugees and that is managed by Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The net-café offers PCs with internet connection, Italian language classes and professional guidance classes using computers. The event is organised in line with a pre-set framework for a set of national BRIDGE-IT seminars that will also take place in Germany, in France, in Spain and in the Czech Republic.
