1st ‘Insight Into Accessibility’ Day The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) Centre for Inclusive Technology (CFIT) will host a series of one-day 'Insight into Accessibility' events during 2008. The 1st of this series will take place on 13 February in Dublin, Ireland.
Each event will consist of a day of free website user testing by people with vision impairments. The events are aimed at website managers, developers and students from both the public and private sector. The following events are planned to take place on 16 April, 18 June, 20 August, 15 October and 10 December 2008 respectively.
Each event will provide an opportunity for the visitors to learn directly from people with vision impairments about web accessibility. They will get to meet vision impaired web users and talk to them about how they use the web, how accessibility issues arise and what can be done to prevent them. They will be given demonstrations of assistive technologies such as screen reader software and the users will test their websites on the spot by undertaking real tasks, live, in exclusive one hour face-to-face sessions at the NCBI CFIT user testing facility in Dublin.
These events are aimed to demonstrate the full meaning of eInclusion – the inclusion of people with disabilities in the technology design process, resulting in inclusive online services that are available to all users.
Those wishing to book a one hour face-to-face session at the CFIT user testing facility in Drumcondra, Dublin, shall email info@cfit.ie giving their preferred date, rough time (morning or afternoon) and the number of people they would like to bring (maximum 4). Sessions will be allocated on a "first come, first served" basis, so early booking is recommended.
