Description

This first Congress for Observatories on the Information Society will gather the main actors involved in the analysis of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) during two days.

The European Commission considers the detailed study of the level of development of the Information Society as essential, which is reflected in the eEurope 2005 action plan and in the i2010 initiative. To such regard, the observatories of the information society have become real centres for observing, collecting and analysing information. Their mission is fundamental in order to know the real situation of new technologies and their impact on social, political and economic life. Results of the observatories’ analysis are used by the different governments in order to design their respective modernisation strategies.

The Congress aims at becoming a permanent forum, open to exchanging ideas and experiences. It will host discussions on new concepts, where experts may give their own opinion concerning aspects related to the Information Society. It will also promote the creation of working groups and give the observatories the opportunity to strengthen their relationships.

The program of the Congress will break into 8 conference and round tables sessions, including the following:
  • Spanish observatories for measuring the Information Society: State of the Art
  • e-Commerce, paradigm for the New Economy
  • e-Administration. Keys towards its development and globalisation
  • Citizen and user: the two realities of an individual within a technological environment
  • Methodological and comparative aspects when measuring the Information Society
  • Initiatives towards the homogenisation of methodologies to face new challenges
