FR: Telemedicine limits the use of mobile intensive care units in a remote area of Réunion Island Of the 168 patients treated by emergency teleconsultation at Cilaos hospital in 2010, a remote area on Réunion Island, only one required the dispatch of a mobile intensive care unit (service mobile d'urgence et réanimation - SMUR, in French). This confirms the efficiency of telemedicine, according to the regional hospital's annual report on telemedicine activity. - Read more »

FR: Two new calls for eHealth projects to be launched by Autumn 2011 On 1 February 2011, as part of the General Directorate for Competitiveness, Industry and Services (Direction Générale de la Compétitivité, de l'Industrie et des Services - DGCIS, in French) conference, the Minister for Industry Eric Besson announced two new calls for eHealth projects beginning in September under the 'Future Investments' programme and funded by the National Loan. - Read more »

INT: Global Observatory for eHealth series - Telemedicine -Opportunities and developments in Member States - Global Observatory for eHealth series Telemedicine can bring the eyes of a specialist to examine a critically ill patient from halfway around the globe. It bridges the distance between people and the best health care available and can be applied to a vast range of situations - from home care to specialised clinical settings.

The second volume of the Global Observatory for eHealth series examines trends in the uptake of telemedicine, from the well established to newly emerging telemedicine applications. With an emphasis on the needs of developing countries, it looks to the future with an analysis of the strategic actions required to support and strengthen telemedicine in countries.

The publication is targeted at telemedicine practitioners and policymakers in health and information technology, as well as health care practitioners interested in adopting telemedicine services. - Read more »
