Ageing of the population is resulting in a larger demand for long-term care and on the other hand long-term care is becoming more and more a set of services for the elderly. However, older people and people getting older reluctant, unwilling or unable to use conventional PCs and/or mobile phones, but who know how to use a TV remote control, in many cases, have had a limited or even null contact with the world of technology, computers, even mobile phones, are terms and tools that they are not used to and in most of the cases create psychological barriers for the access and use of online services. In this respect there is a need for a flexible combination of citizen-centric and personalised e-Care Services according to user’s preferred or available ICT media: primarily via digital and digital interactive TV, that aim to cover a diverse range of care needs in a wide range of service situations (home care, tele-assistance, mobile telecom services, tele-alarms, nursing services, etc.).This community aims to gather and promote innovative ICT practices including those that: - are available to elderly through the Internet, but older people that use it, do not care if it is Internet or not. - empower the capability of small towns and rural areas to benefit from ICT Technologies, adding value to undergoing investments on infrastructure. - transform Public Web Sites in accessible Public information to older people. - reduce the learning curve to minimum and intuitive effort. - Older people are already acquainted to TV remote control.
