The European eID Observatory (EUReID) community on epractice was launched by the European Commission, thus acknowledging the need for interoperable global eID solutions. Electronic identification can help citizens and enterprises enjoy an unprecedented freedom in accessing electronic services throughout the world , thus alleviating the cross-border difficulties of the past.
Furthermore, the Observatory is an information-gathering and knowledge-receiving forum, committed to serve the needs and interests of eID practitioners in Europe and beyond. EUReID acknowledges that the full-scale deployment of eID solutions affects socio-economic, political and human rights related issues in policy and practice. For this reason, all eID related expertise across all domains is welcome and encouraged.
This is possible, since the community is equipped with features that facilitate the communication and exchange of knowledge and expertise among current and potential members of eID. Among its objectives, the community intends to motivate decision-makers and professionals in public administrations, academia, and business to meet, discuss and share their ideas, experiences and knowledge on eID, but also aims to engage the interest of key policy people and support more usable, and interoperable methods for authentication, identification, and privacy protection.
Currently, the community has highlighted the most recent contributions in terms of events, news, cases, library items and blog posts. In an effort to enhance the community, a page was created to include pertinent eID information per country across Europe. This page has used the ePractice factsheets as a resource.
