Technology solution

The service is offered as a ofrece "generic brandâ€ so that it can be personalized to follow the web stile of the different organisms. The base software is the following:

- Postgres 8.1.5, as data base (free BSD license).

- Postgis 1.1.6,Â spatial data extension for Postgres.

- Tomcat 5.5,Â servlet container.

- JDK 5.0,Â (Java Developer kit).

- Mapserver, open software maps server.

- OpenLayers,Â web client for maps visualization.

The project is opened to share the service specifications and implementation details with other administrative bodies in Spain or across Europe that might be interested in.

Lessons learnt

- This is a case study of trade offs between in house developments and external services.

- When administrative bodies do not get some direct advantage of a serviceÂ implementation is slow.

- Is cadastral data the best input for a city map?
