Case Abstract

OPIMEC is the acronym in Spanish for the Observatory of Innovative Practices for Complex Chronic Disease Management. 

The Observatory is a project funded by the General Directorate for Health Planning and Innovation of the Andalusian Ministry of Health in Spain. With the collaboration of  Dr. Alejandro Jadad, Canada Research Chair in eHealth Innovation and Rose Family Chair in Supportive Care, through Foresight Links Corporation and the Andalusian School of Public Health, in Granada, Spain, and a growing number of innovators who share a strong interest in collaborative efforts to improve the management of complex chronic diseases worldwide.

OPIMEC responds to the need to create and build an network instrument  known to managers, researchers, health professionals in general and patients and caregivers, organizations and practices related to management of complex chronic diseases, thus facilitating continuous improvement of quality in health care.

  • OPIMEC's mission is "To coordinate, develop and establish from Andalusia, Spain and focus on the international level, the basic structures necessary for the creation and consolidation of a global community in the field of complex chronic diseases, through the systematic search and rigorous selection of innovations and of interest as well as promoting collaboration and exchange of scientific and technical.
  • OPIMEC´s vision is collaborating with the Ministry of Health of Andalusia to develop policies on complex chronic diseases, as well as public service providers, especially the Andalusian Health Service, taking responsibility for promoting new knowledge and tools to develop a new public health and a new organizational model of health and social services to people with complex chronic diseases. In addition, OPIMEC is an initiative that advocates for new technologies, open source, social networks and developing global partnerships.

    • Map and directory with information related to innovative practices, organizations and individuals related to the prevention, detection and treatment of complex chronic diseases,
    • Taxonomy or glossary that acts as global common language to support the identification, selection, classification and implementation of practices by health professionals,
    • Updated information on news, documents, meetings, resources, etc..
    • Calendar of international events,
    • A content manager to propose the publication of any content type
    • Selected information through
      • or a direct search on 'live' and  'dynamic'
      • or indexing by experts through the 'labels' given by the users of the Web (tags)
    • Collaborative editing of content, such as taxonomy or key areas of development in Complex Chronic Disease Management,
